Steering and Handling

There are many causes of steering and handling problems in both cars and off road vehicles. Many of them are itemized below.
1. Are your tires inflated to the correct pressure?
Improper tire pressure is the easiest steering and handling problem to remedy. Over inflated tires impair the traction and gripping properties of the tire and decrease the vehicles stability on the road.
2. Does your vehicle sway or lean when cornering?
Worn or damaged shocks affect steering by reducing tire contact the road and by allowing the vehicle to sway or lean during cornering.
3. Does your vehicle tend to wander on the road?
Loose and warn wheel bearings prevent the wheels from tracking properly causing the vehicle to wander.
4. Is your steering sluggish?
When tie rod ends are warn steering responsiveness is impaired due to play in the steering mechanism.
5. Can you turn as sharp as you used to?
A bent tie rod can prevent the vehicle from turning as sharply as it was designed.
6. Are there any erratic steering problems?
Steering box or rack and pinion problems can cause steering to behave erratically as a result of its internal component wobbling back and forth.
